Broccoli with Cheese Sauce

broccoli head, separated
1/2 tbs
butter
1/2 tbs
all-purpose flour, wondra works best
1/2 cup
milk - 2%
3/4 cup
block soft american cheese, cut into cubes
1/4 tsp
sugar


  • Steam broccoli until tender (or cook in your preferred manner).
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan then remove from heat.
  • Tip the pan sideways to get the butter in one spot and mix in flour with a fork until smooth.
  • Return to heat and slowly stir in the milk while letting it come to a boil.
  • When the mixture has thickened, add the cheese and keep stirring until smooth.
  • Stir in the sugar and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Drizzle over broccoli.
