MealMixer's recipe editor takes most text based recipes as is. A couple of things to remember:
- Start ingredients on the first line
- Separate ingredients from instructions by a blank line
- Separate the ingredient (amount and name) from its "preparation" (chopped, diced, etc.) and comments by commas
- Ingredient preparation (chopped, grated, sliced, diced, etc.) must follow ingredient name and be preceded by a comma. This is important for accurate nutrition calculation.
EditIngredient Line Examples:
1 tbsp flour
2 1/2 oz cheddar cheese, grated, sprinkled on top
4 cups vegetable oil :10%
- You can use pretty much any kind of unit of measure (Tbs, tbs, tbsp, tsp, T, t, cup, etc.). Note: make sure you distinguish between a fluid oz (fl oz) and a weight oz (oz). They are different and can throw off the nutritional values and shopping list.
- If the recipe has multiple components, separate them with a line that titles the component, with the first character being a percent (e.g., %Pie Filling) (see example #2 below)
- If the entire amount of the ingredient won't be in the final dish (e.g., cooking oil for deep frying), you can tell us what percent will be in the final dish after cooking by using a ':' and a percentage after it at the end of the line. **For example: 16 fl-oz corn oil : 10%
- To be precise with nutrition and with your shopping list, you must use "fl oz" for fluid ounces and "oz" for weight ounces.
EditExample #1: A Simple Recipe
1 fl-oz olive oil
1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
2 tbs balsamic vinegar
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsps dried rosemary
1/4 tsp pepper
1 lb beef London broil
Combine everything is a large zip top bag and shake to combine well.
Squeeze the air out of the bag so that the beef is fully submerged, and allow to marinate in the refrigerator 4 hours
Pour marinade into a saucepan. Use a paper towel to dry off the beef. Broil 10-15 minutes per side (depending on how well done you prefer).
Allow the cooked beef to stand 10 minutes while you bring the marinade to a boil and allow it to reduce slightly.
Slice beef and drizzle with sauce.
EditExample 2: Components and %Used
Notice that only 10% of the vegetable oil is going into the final recipe, but we need a lot more to do the deep frying.
