It’s that time of year again. The cocktails, the appetizers, the tables groaning with festive foods can all add up to unwanted weight gain. The good news is that you don’t have to resign yourself to the Holiday 5 (or 10, or 15…), you can take pro-active steps to plan your diet for the holidays and enjoy the bounty of the holiday season.
Plan healthy meals at home
It might not hurt to drop your caloric intake to compensate for extra calories out of the home. A low fat diet at home will help you to not worry about all of the high fat goodies served at parties and in restaurants.
Don’t Skip Meals
Skipping meals not only makes you hungrier, it also forces justifications at the spur of the moment – “I didn’t have lunch so I can eat this end of the buffet table… “ Your diet plan should include a steady stream of calories throughout the day to avoid hunger and over-eating.
Stay Hydrated
This is important at any time, but more so over the holidays. Sometimes thirst is mistaken for hunger. Drinking enough water will also help to not quench thirst with high calorie drinks.
Host the Party Yourself
Plan and prepare a party that fits your diet. Butter does not equal love. Using festive dishes and extra garnishes is a much better way to show the holiday spirit. Don’t worry about putting out a lavish spread or having a spotless home – host unto others as you would have them host unto you!
