7 Kitchen Gadgets I Can Live Without

Posted on April 23, 2008 04:40 by Marianne

I recently tore apart the kitchen and went through all of my toys.  The drawers were getting too full, and Purple Heart was scheduled to come by, which spurred on my cleaning efforts.

Here is a partial list of items to be donated/foisted upon others.

The Ronco Veg-a-Matic.   My Grandmother gave this to me, which I found odd, considering she hated to cook, had basically nothing in her kitchen, and mashed potatoes with a fork.  It was hard to part with, but also harder to clean than a food processor.  Why is there a link?  It’s to the old Ronco commercials - scary flashbacks?

A plastic tube thing for peeling garlic.  This was a stocking stuffer.  Not as satisfying as smashing garlic cloves with the side of a knife.  Also annoying to wash.

6 sets of measuring spoons.  Why?  I do not know.

A dumpling press.  Another gift.  Nice thought, but I prefer to sit around the table and make pierogi by hand.  My 12 year old son and I cranked out over 100 for Easter.  That’s quality time you can’t get with a plastic appliance!

A ricer.  I used it once.  The one time I canned tomato sauce.  Wait, I think I’ll throw in the canning supplies, too...  I can press stuff through a sieve faster anyhow.

Silicon muffin pan.   Another gift.   I’m starting to think people don’t like me.

Microwave egg cooker.  At the very least it was entertainment for the dog when the molten, rubberized egg escaped and bounced around the kitchen…

There are gadgets I love…but that’s another post!  What’s in your kitchen?

We all end up with useless or duplicate kitchen gadgets. I agree with you that the satisfaction of smashing garlic with the side of a knife, beats the other gadgets hands-down. So glad to have discovered your blog.
